The Beautiful That Never Changes.

2015_0218_beautyHave you see the videos on YouTube that show how beauty and beauty standards have changed throughout history? Personally I think it is a really hard thing for people to wrap their heads around sometimes... the fact that the 'ideal body' has changed throughout history. It is a hard thing for me to wrap my head around it... and it was talked about a ton during my art history classes all through college. Just looking at the masterpieces from different eras and cultures makes it clear that the idealized female form changes. I mean- just look at the pieces from the Italian Renaissance- the women portrayed and curvy, full-bodied women with not a thigh gap to be seen.Even so... I think it is hard to imagine a different idealized body type since we have internalized the current idealized form to such an extent. I think it is really important that we be reminded of it though... and to remember that no matter what is idealized everyone comes in a different shape and size. The only thing that doesn't change and is a true one-size fits all is confidence and contentment. I'm not saying that you have to be ultra confident and walk around like you are the lust of everyman on the street. And I'm not saying that you have to be perfectly content with your current health/weight. I'm saying that you are comfortable and at ease in your skin.Let me clear- I am not an ideal body type. I'm short with curvy little hips that make me think a thigh gap is out of my grasp. I can't tan for the life of me and I have the craziest curly hair ever. I am unique though. You are unique. I like my short stature and I'm coming to terms with my curvy frame. I prefer the dark hair, fair skin, Snow-Whitey look than being tan, and I love my curls. I am working really hard to embrace the fact that I have a uniquely beautiful frame... and I think that is beautiful.Embrace the real you- treat yourself well. Put on as little or as much makeup as you desire. Workout or don't. Dress in the latest styles or don't. Feed and energize your body. Be confidently and comfortably you.
