Explored. Hotel Teatro.

teatroenterI hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day and a great weekend. My hubby and I had a wonderful day on Saturday- we stayed downtown at the Hotel Teatro. The hotel is walking distance from the restaurant and the bar that we went too in Larimer Square- so we didn't have to fight over who would be the designated driver on Valentine's Day. ;)We stayed at the same hotel last year for my birthday (which was only like... two months ago) and we LOVED it. It is probably the coolest hotel we have ever visited. It is decorated with this industrial modern look that we love. We kind of just want to live there... or just take all their stuff and put it in our condo. Plus, the hotel is dog friendly. How awesome is that? The building was built in 1911 as the Denver Tramway Building. So it was simply a really, really beautiful office building back then with a traditional Renaissance Revival-style edifice of glazed red brick and glazed white terra cotta. After WWII streetcars became obsolete, so the 8-story office tower and the adjacent 3-story car barn was purchased by The University of Colorado at Denver as was used a faculty offices and classrooms. They left in the late 80's though and the main office building stood vacant until 1997. The adjacent car barn was purchased by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts to use as offices, a workshop, and a storage area. From what I have discovered- it was meticulously renovated and restored. The front lobby was restored back to the original beauty of the light pink marble flooring, green marble base, and white marble wainscoting. The name 'teatro' is Italian for theatre- since the hotel is so close to the Denver Performing Arts Complex.
