Spend Valentines Day at Home.

CoverAre you ready for Valentine’s Day tomorrow? It is not the biggest holiday for me and my hubby- but many people invest a lot of time and money to turn this day into a memorable one for their significant other. My hubby and I do try to do something cute and fun and romantic (an excuse to eat a fancy meal and dress up? Love it).But for those who have yet to make plans for tomorrow or maybe feel a bit of chagrin over the expense that Valentine's can bring, treating your special someone in the comfort of your own home is the next best idea to save your Valentines date. A homemade meal with simple rose arrangements, heart-shaped decor and a knack for creativity, makes pulling off an unforgettable stay-at-home date this Valentines is surprisingly easy. All you need is a little bit of effort (not a lot truly).

Fill the House with Flowers

Flowers speak a language on their own (literally- people used to send messages to people with flowers). And during this season of love, they symbolise your love for your partner. Thus, floral decors are pretty much a must-have in preparing an amazing Valentine stay-at-home date. The red rose is the undisputed flower of choice at this time of the year. Figures from the Society of American Florists reveal that last year, a whopping 233 million roses were sold in flower shops during this period (good heavens!). With a mounting demand for red roses around February 14, buying alternatives will make your flower preparations easier (cheaper and less cliché too!). Tulips, hyacinths and orchids are among the best substitutes for red roses. Now all flowers (and flower colors) have different meanings (like I said people used to send messages with flowers)- so when I talk about putting a little romantic effort into your stay-at-home Valentine's selecting your flowers and their colors for their meanings is a pretty romantic and thoughtful effort. In matching different flowers, a Marks and Spencer video of flower guru Simon Richards offers us a guide on flower color matching and their meanings: red signifies love and passion; pink stands for appreciation and gratitude, yellow indicates joy and friendship, and purple represents rarity and uniqueness. Red flowers match perfectly with yellow ones, while pink flowers go better with purple ones.

Put Some Creativity in your Decor

Your Valentine decorations for your stay-at-home date are a personal statement of your love and commitment to your significant other. Impressing your loved one can be done through the following home décor ideas:• use heart-shaped paper cutouts and flower garlands to create a Valentines bunting;• set the mood by lighting up red candles and scattering flower petals; and• adorn the house with heart-themed or -shaped decors, such as pillows, bed linens and dining glassware.stayathome_valentine_0001_3 stayathome_valentine_0003_1 stayathome_valentine_0000_4cover image via pier1  |  images via bhg
